This Is Your Church Song Devo | Week 6

Lyrics

We stand secure upon the rock of Jesus Christ

A firm foundation that can never be denied

Verse

“This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:11–12

Word

In today’s world, more and more people are looking for security—whether that is physical, emotional, or financial, in order to get a sense of being safe and secure. But what does it mean to be secure in life? Does it mean never encountering any problems that we cannot fix? Does it mean being strong when it comes to dealing with our emotions? Could it mean more money in the bank? How about getting good grades, a high-income job, or a successful business? Even with those things in place, people still tend to feel insecure.

The Bible mentions a person whom we can rely on for our lives. We need someone dependable and strong who can keep us safe, even through the turbulent storms of life. Jesus was prophesied to be this person, this rock that was to be the foundation of what God intends to build—His kingdom. The starting point of standing on the rock of Jesus Christ is to put our faith in Him as our Savior and Lord. Although many have rejected Him, those who believe in Him will be saved. Whether or not we are fulfilled emotionally, protected physically, and financially able, our security will be in Christ and nothing else. Our trust in Jesus will keep us safe and secure eternally.

Application

1. Do you have a relationship with Jesus today that allows you to rely on Him as your rock?

2. In what areas of your life do you need to feel secure? Is it your studies, work, or relationships? How can you rely on Jesus alone as your rock and foundation?
