When I Say Your Name Song Devo | Week 7

Lyrics

When I say Your name, I see faith arising

When I say Your name, my fears, they come crashing
When I say Your name, You're drawing me in Your embrace

Verse

I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!”

Psalm 116:1-4

Word

One of the greatest comforts we have in the world is to be able to call on a friend or family member when we are feeling lost, confused, afraid, sad, or angry about anything. We feel immense relief in our souls and weary hearts when the person hears our distress and comes to us, is ready to be there for us, and encourages and uplifts us. If that is our experience from our closest loved ones, how much greater is the comfort we can find when we call on the name of Jesus, the one who loves and knows us the most?

Jesus desires nothing more than to be with you in every moment, to comfort you through every season, and to give you heavenly peace that transcends all earthly understanding. The very act of saying His name brings the power of healing and restoration that is available for us to access every single day. This is why we are called to commune with Him in prayer and in the Scriptures as often as we possibly can! Those who have called out to Jesus in the Bible during their times of need and in their darkest hours have found that Jesus never failed to respond to them each time. A beautiful story that comes to mind for example is of Lazarus being raised from the dead. Miracles are waiting to be birthed in those times.

Every time we pray and call upon the name of Jesus, our souls are refreshed and our faith is rebuilt. No matter how lost or exhausted we may be feeling at the start of the day, we should not give up our times of prayer, being able to read and listen to the Scriptures, and worshiping God. Jesus will meet us in those moments as we enter into His presence, and He will give us the power to overcome everything we will ever face in this world.
